Obesity has reached alarming proportions: the number of obese people has increased 50% in the last three decades and now 325,000 people die a year from it.

In Mexico there currently are 31 million obese people, 76% of the population is overweight and even children are seriously affected by this disease.

Being overweight or obese increase the risk of suffering various disease and health problems, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, gall stones, gout, liver problems, apnea, high triglycerides, arthritis, heart attacks, cardiovascular problems, kidney problems, depression, anxiety, reflux, hernias, edema, urinary incontinence, skin ulcers and various types of cancer, including breast, ovary, prostate, colon and stomach.

The rate of heart attacks, chest angina, stocks and blood clots increases for obese people.  Hypertension is 12 times more common, cardiovascular diseases are six times more common and type 2 diabetes is fifteen times more common in overweight people than people with normal weight levels.
